The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that North American equity markets surged in May, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index rising above 26,000 for the first time. The Globe's Jennifer Dowty writes that CIBC chief market technician Sid Mokhtari predicts the index will exceed 27,000 in the coming months. Mr. Mokhtari publishes a monthly report with his Top 10 stock ideas and his disciplined process continues to lead to outperformance. For June, his Top 10 stock ideas include nine additions and one carryover from the prior month. They are: Aritzia, Eldorado Gold, Exchange Income, Killam Apartment REIT, MDA Space, NGEx Minerals, Parkland, Shopify, Sun Life Financial and the lone carryover is Power Corp. of Canada. Mr. Mokhtari sees growth and momentum stocks continuing to be the leaders. He says, "We also see 'Magnificent Seven' stocks starting to show a very strong set of positive reversals, and that's a very big weighting in the S&P 500." Last month Mr. Mokhtari added shares of Toronto-Dominion Bank to his top 10 best ideas list and removed it this month and replaced it with Sun Life Financial. "The recent technical breakout in Sun Life share price is still new from a time horizon perspective."
