Mr. J.F. Labbe reports
ECOLOMONDO INCREASES TIRE SHREDDING PRODUCTION AT ITS HAWKESBURY FACILITY
Ecolomondo Corp. has increased the tire shredding production at its Hawkesbury TDP facility.
The company recently announced the successful commissioning of its new milling equipment and the start-up of commissioning of the entire recovered carbon black (rCB) processing line, needed for continuous production of rCB and the Hawkesbury plant as a whole. Achieving this next milestone is expected to set the stage for increased activities at the Hawkesbury (TDP) facility.
This anticipated increase of activities is expected to require higher volumes of crumb rubber and therefore, in preparation, the Hawkesbury plant has recently added a second work shift in the tire shredding department to ensure the supply of crumb rubber to achieve the facility's higher production goals.
The Hawkesbury TDP facility has three departments: tire shredding, thermal decomposition process (TDP) and rCB processing. It is important that each department works in tandem with each other. To perform a batch of 15,000 pounds, it requires 15,000 lb of crumb rubber loaded into a TDP reactor. The TDP reactor decomposes the crumb rubber into gas, oil and rCB. The gas is consumed to fire up the reactor for the following batch, the oil is sent to a holding tank to be shipped to an offtake customer and requires no further processing, while the rCB requires further processing in the rCB Processing department. Once completed, the rCB is bagged and ready for shipment to offtake customers.
Once fully operational, the Hawkesbury TDP facility is expected to process approximately 1.3 million to 1.5 million scrap tires per year and produce on the average approximately 4,000 million tonnes (MT) of recovered carbon black, 5,000 MT of pyrolysis oil, 2,000 MT of steel and 1,200 MT of process gas.
