The Globe's Norman Rothery writes that Canadian Western Bank has been added to this year's Megastar portfolio. It is one of The Globe's top 20 picks for this year. Canadian Western specializes in serving Canadian businesses and business owners. The bank is headquartered in Edmonton and most of its loans are concentrated in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Its stock trades near 0.8 times book value and it pays a dividend yield of 4.4 per cent, which is well covered by an 11.4-per-cent earnings yield. The Globe reported on Nov. 8, 2022, Feb. 8, 2023, and Nov. 7, 2023, that Desjardins Securities analyst Doug Young continued to rate Canadian Western Bank "buy." It was then worth $23.38, $28.62 and $29.05. The Globe reported on Nov. 22, 2023, Dec. 6, 2023, and Dec. 12, 2023, that National Bank Financial analyst Gabriel Dechaine rated Canadian Western "outperform." It was then worth $28.75, $30.25 and $30.27.
