The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that legal proceedings are ongoing regarding the sale of up to 25 store leases to Ruby Liu. A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe reports that Hudson's Bay Co. has secured deals for six store leases, including five to clothing retailer YM for $5.03-million, which includes locations in Vaughan, Kanata, Winnipeg, Rocky View and Halton Hills. However, YM was unable to secure landlord approvals for three other sites. Separately, Ivanhoe Realties has agreed to pay $20,000 for a lease at Metrotown in Burnaby, B.C. These deals require court approval as Hudson's Bay seeks to recover funds for creditors owed nearly $1-billion after filing for creditor protection and closing its 80 stores. Ms. Liu previously acquired three leases for $6-million, which received court approval. However, her bid for an additional 25 leases is facing opposition from landlords who question the credibility of her business plan. HBC sold off its intellectual property, including the stripe design, to Canadian Tire in a $30-million deal. Alvarez & Marsal estimated it is costing at least $4.7-million in rent, property taxes, utilities and other fees each month that the Liu deal goes unapproved.
