The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Feb. 21, edition that Canaccord Genuity analyst Luke Hannan continues to rate Canadian Tire "hold." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Hannan gave his share target a $5 trim to $153. Analysts on average target the Class A shares at $160.36. Canadian Tire recently agreed to sell its Helly Hansen business to Kontoor Brands. Mr. Hannan says in a note: "We are not surprised to see the modest strength in the shares yesterday, considering most investors didn't have much love for the Helly Hansen acquisition in the first place. The sale, combined with the CTFS strategic review and language in the press release on the company's sharper focus on Canadian retail, provides some hints as to what to expect on March 6, in our view. We've adjusted our model, assuming a mid-Q2/25 closing of the sale and $1.27-billion of proceeds flowing through to the balance sheet, though we expect this will have to be fine-tuned post-closing. We've reduced our estimates to reflect the divestiture, which reduces our target price based on our SOTP valuation. We'll look for more direction from the company around use of proceeds."
