The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, March 28, edition that CIBC World Markets analyst Kevin Chiang rates Canadian National Railway "neutral," while rating Canadian Pacific Kansas City "outperformer." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Chiang raised his share target for CN to $183 from $177. Analysts on average target CN shares at $177.58. Mr. Chiang boosted his CPKC share target to $130 from $124. Analysts on average target CPKC shares at $118.68. Mr. Chiang says in a note: "We have adjusted our estimates for the Canadian rails as we mark to market current volume trends, which are better than we had expected. Our full-year EPS estimates are broadly unchanged. For Q1/24, our EPS expectations are modestly below consensus estimates, reflecting a tougher winter versus last year and higher stock-based comp for CPKC. We have raised our target multiples to reflect the volume momentum exiting the first quarter. ... While CPKC trades at a premium valuation, we view this as deserved given its industry-leading earnings growth as we look out through the balance of this decade."
