The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Aug. 10, edition that Credit Suisse analyst Ariel Rosa is sticking with his "neutral" call for Canadian Pacific Kansas City. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Rosa raised his share target by $1 (U.S.) to $88 (U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $91.21 (U.S.). Mr. Rosa says in a note: "CPKC reported 2Q23 adj. EPS of 83 Canadian cents, down 13 per cent year-over-year on a like-for-like basis, as this is the first quarter in which CP has included KCS results as a combined entity. Results missed Bloomberg consensus of 93 Canadian cents, but the company maintained its outlook for full-year adj. EPS growth in the mid-single digits relative to last year's $3.77 (Canadian). This contrasts with Canadian peer CN's move post-earnings to lower its full-year outlook in response to the weak macro environment. CPKC noted efficiency gains, particularly in Mexico, the reopening of Canadian ports following labour related disruptions in 2Q, and a more upbeat second half outlook for certain categories including grain, coal, and autos as driving this optimism. The company also reaffirmed its expectation for double-digit annualized EPS growth between 2024-2028."
