The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Aug. 19, edition that CI Global Asset Management manager Ali Pervez recommends buying Coca-Cola. The Globe's Shirley Won writes that Coca-Cola has raised its annual dividend for 64 consecutive years. Mr. Pervez says it is recession-resilient as consumers will buy its drinks in good and bad times. Based in Atlanta, Mr. Pervez says the global beverage giant has become an asset-light, high-margin business after growing franchise relationships with bottlers since 2015.
Coca-Cola, which owns the brand, sells its syrup to its bottlers who add water and sweeteners. It has also expanded beyond sugary drinks to sugar-free options, such as its Fairlife protein drinks, which appeal to health-conscious consumers, adds Mr. Pervez.
Coca-Cola shares, which hit a new record high recently, trade at around 25 times forward earnings, but that is still reasonable because the business has changed, Mr. Pervez says. Risks stem from changing consumer tastes and competition from PepsiCo.
