The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Canaccord Genuity analyst Aravinda Galappatthige is keeping his "hold" call for Cineplex intact. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Galappatthige gave his share target a $2 boost to $13. Analysts on average target the shares at $13.79. On Thursday Cineplex announced the $70-million sale of its digital media subsidiary to Creative Realities, a U.S.-based digital signage company. Mr. Galappatthige says in a note: "The transaction is clearly positive due to the fact that it was likely circa $30-million higher than Street expectations in terms of realizable value for that asset. The divestiture strengthens Cineplex's balance sheet, and supports capital allocation options, in particular buybacks. The sale is expected to close in the coming weeks, pending regulatory approvals." The Globe reported on Jan. 19, 2023, Feb. 9, 2023, and Jan. 17, 2025, that Mr. Galappatthige was sticking with his "buy" recommendation for Cineplex when it could be had for $7.92, $8.91 and $10.98. The Globe reported on Aug. 14, 2025, that Scotia Capital analyst Maher Yaghi had reaffirmed his "sector outperform" call on Cineplex. It was then worth $10.66.
