The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, March 30, edition that while 2023 sales at movie theatre operator Cineplex grew by 25.9 per cent to $1.4-billion, the past 12 months have been a flop for the share price. The Globe's guest columnist Ted Dixon writes in the Who Is Buying and Selling column that as the stock headed on a journey to set a 52-week low last month, insiders were buying. Since Feb. 28, four Cineplex insiders have spent a total of $185,011 buying shares. The 24,500 shares were purchased at an average price of $7.55. The most recent buying was on March 21 when chief operating officer Daniel McGrath bought 10,000 shares at $7.51. The Globe reported on Sept. 28, Nov. 24 and Jan. 17 that National Bank Financial analyst Adam Shine continued to rank Cineplex "outperform." The shares could then be had for $8.87, $8.35 and $8.11. The Globe reported on March 7, that BMO Capital analyst Tim Casey reinstated coverage of Cineplex with a "market perform" rating. The shares could then be had for $7.77. The Globe reported on March 8 that Scotia Capital analyst Maher Yaghi had reaffirmed his "sector outperform" recommendation for Cineplex. The shares were then going for $7.72.
