The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that Stifel analyst Daryl Young started coverage on Boyd Group Services and FirstService with a "buy" call. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Young calls Boyd and FirstService one of his "special situations." He targets Boyd and FirstService shares at $295 (Canadian) and $175 (U.S.). Analysts on average target Boyd and FirstService shares at $282.38 (Canadian) and $159.98 (U.S.). Mr. Young says in a note: "On the one hand, we like FirstService and Boyd, paying a premium valuation for premium track records. Both of these companies operate in recession resistant end markets and have the ability to self-fund their aggressive growth trajectories, irrespective of the current macro uncertainties. Furthermore, we believe both companies are poised for opportunistic M&A as the higher interest rate environment may finally level the playing field against private equity, which has been the dominant buyer in their respective markets in recent years." The Globe reported on May 12 that Desjardins rated Boyd "hold." It was then worth $244.22 (Canadian). The Globe reported on Oct. 27 that RBC rated FirstService "outperform." It was then worth $190.20 (Canadian).
