The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Sept. 3, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Doug Young, following "strong" third quarter results "as expected," reaffirmed his "market-weight stance" on Canadian banks. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Young says in a note: "This was the quarter of four-letter word titles (in case you hadn't noticed!) -- but nice ones, because results were better than expected across the board. In our view, TD had the strongest results of the group. That said, Scotiabank was arguably the biggest positive surprise given its material stock price outperformance over the reporting period. Management teams were not overly concerned about the recent tariff noise, with most stating they don't view developments as a credit event (yet!). Through the reporting season, we revised our FY26 and FY27 cash EPS estimates higher by an average of 3 per cent and 2 per cent." Mr. Young says the Big Six's operating divisions all "delivered strong results, with the largest beat coming from capital markets and wealth management." Mr. Young continues to rate Bank of Nova Scotia "hold," with a $130 share target. Analysts on average target the shares at $138.76.
