The National Post reports in its Monday, June 15, edition that new data reveals that nearly half of Canadians are facing financial anxiety. Postmedia's Elaine Della-Mattia writes that many report they could cover expenses for only one month or less before falling into debt. This information comes from a poll by United Way Centraide Canada and Leger. A recent survey indicates that 46 per cent of Canadians can cover basic expenses for only one month or less before going into debt, highlighting that financial strain is affecting more than just low-income households. Survey data reveals that financial anxiety is impacting well-being due to rising costs of essentials like food, housing and energy. Single parents (58 per cent) and newcomers (54 per cent) struggle to cover basic expenses without debt if they lose their main income, alongside younger adults aged 18 to 34, who experience higher anxiety levels. This indicates a widening divide in financial stability, now affecting those who previously felt secure. United Way's Lori Huston says those statistics are alarming and indicate Canadians are having a harder time paying for basic costs like housing, utilities, groceries and transportation.
