The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that President Donald Trump on Monday said talks with Iran were ongoing, calling it a "last chance" for a favourable deal to end the five-month war. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that Iran, however, denied any negotiations, indicating a slim chance for a diplomatic resolution soon. "They are going on right now," Mr. Trump told reporters at an Oval Office event when asked about the state of negotiations, saying the sides were talking at the request of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, among others. "This is a last chance for them (Iran) to sign a good document," he said. Mr. Trump canceled planned "massive attacks" on Iran, saying talks would take place, continuing a pattern of threatening major strikes and then backing down. On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said there were no ongoing negotiations or scheduled meetings with the United States. He indicated that Iran had no plans to host foreign delegations or send negotiators abroad, aside from Foreign Minister Abbas, who is currently outside the country. Mr. Baghaei noted that the only discussions taking place were with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
