The National Post reports in its Saturday edition that cabinet members stressed Friday there will be "no messing" with the Canada-U.S. border, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested President Donald Trump is serious about making this country the 51st state. The Post's Tom Blackwell writes that at a business-government summit meeting on strengthening Canada's economy, Mr. Trudeau earned his biggest applause when he said it is time to end interprovincial trade barriers. However, one business leader suggested that should be just the start. The key is to export a greater variety of products, especially tech-related goods like cybersecurity, rather than depending on multinational investment, said Benjamin Bergen of the Council of Canadian Innovators. "When you rely on a branch-plant economy, when you rely on Volkswagen to invest in Ontario, when you rely on Google and Amazon to supply all your government services, you're unable to have a sovereign country," he said. "Canadians are 25 per cent poorer than Americans, 20 per cent poorer than Australians. We are 20 per cent poorer than the Danes. It's not socialism, it's not capitalism. We have to get our shit together, figure out what the world wants and sell it."
