Post says Amazon, Telus get tough with at-home workers

The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that several high-profile companies in Canada, including Amazon and Telus Communications, have begun scaling back their work-from-home policies in favour of in-office work -- in some cases, full-time. The Post's Ben Cousins writes that Stellantis NV, the automaker behind Jeep and Fiat, brought its employees back to the office last week amid profit concerns. Employees must now work three days in-person. Amazon chief executive officer Andy Jassy wrote in a memo in September that employees would be returning to the "way we were before the onset of COVID," and working from the office five days a week. Telus ordered roughly 1,000 call centre workers back to the office for three days a week beginning in September -- though some employees in Barrie, Ont., were told to move to Montreal or accept a severance package. Mr. Jassy said the decision to bring Amazon employees back to the office was because in-person work is "better set up to invent, collaborate, and be connected to each other and our culture. When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant," Mr. Jassy wrote in his memo.
