The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, March 6, edition that National Bank analyst Cameron Doerksen predicts "strong" demand for transAtlantic flights during the key summer season this year, but expects Canadian airlines to face "some pricing pressure" due to increased capacity. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Doerksen has reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation and $31 share target for Air Canada. Analysts on average target the shares at $29.09. Mr. Doerksen says in a note: "The trans-Atlantic market accounted for 36 per cent of Air Canada's total passenger revenue in Q2 and Q3 last year (up from 30 per cent in the same quarters of 2019) and will likely still be one of the most important contributors to profits this summer. While we believe that prices in the summer will come under some pressure due to higher industry capacity and Air Canada will also face very tough year-over-year comparisons on routes to Europe, if trans-Atlantic market conditions should weaken, the airline has the flexibility to shift capacity to other international markets." The Globe reported on Aug. 15, Oct. 5 and Jan. 11 that Mr. Doerksen kept his Air Canada rating at "outperform." It was then worth $23.25, $19.02 and $19.62.
