The Financial Post reports in its Saturday edition that Air Canada is being accused on social media of "profiteering" off of people who were ordered to evacuate from Yellowknife amid raging wildfires approaching the city. The Post's Denise Paglinawan writes that in a press release Thursday, the airline said the posts about fares being elevated are "not in line" with what it is offering on non-stop flights from Yellowknife. "This is not correct as we proactively at the earliest possible time put in place a cap to limit fares for Air Canada's direct flights out of Yellowknife," the statement said. A screenshot showing flights costing more than $4,000 from Yellowknife that has been making rounds on-line is not from Air Canada, but from an on-line flight aggregator that resells plane tickets to people that put together different itineraries, a company spokesman told the Post. "This is what they're charging. That's not what we're charging," the official said. The 21-hour itinerary posted is not a direct flight from Yellowknife and has a long layover. Air Canada said the examples on social media are aggregated fares by websites and it is ensuring that the capped fares continue to display as intended on its official website.
