The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Oct. 28, edition that RBC Capital Markets analyst Josh Wolfson continues to rate Barrick Mining "outperform." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Wolfson jacked his share target up by $2 to $40 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $39.76. Following Bloomberg's report that Newmont is interested in Barrick Mining's Nevada gold assets, Mr. Wolfson believes that a selective acquisition would be "challenging," while a deal for the entire company seems "more likely and opportunistic." Mr. Wolfson says in a note: "Barrick's overlapping assets with Newmont represent a total 61 per cent of its NAV, including 37 per cent for [Nevada Gold Mines], 14 per cent for Fourmile and 10 per cent for [Pueblo Viejo] in the Dominican Republic. Absent Barrick pursuing its own break-up, or Newmont finding a joint suitor for the entirety of Barrick, we believe it would be challenging for Newmont to selectively acquire this portfolio, given its disproportionate value share and strategic importance. For Newmont, these overlapping interests total 22 per cent of NAV (i.e. 16 per cent for Nevada Gold Mine, plus 6 per cent for [Pueblo Viejo])."
