The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Nov. 26, edition that CIBC analyst Anita Soni has lowered her recommendation for Barrick Gold to "neutral" from "outperformer." The Globe's David Leeder writes that Ms. Soni gave her share target a $5 trim to $22 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $24.37. Ms. Soni says in a note: "We believe Barrick hosts some of the best assets and a world class operational team. However, the under-investment in Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) (which [Barrick] highlighted in [a recent] presentation) prior to the JV consolidation in 2019, combined with the post-pandemic inflationary environment has presented Barrick with significant challenges. The company is now embarking on a period of reinvestment at NGM which we expect could begin to deliver returns in 2026. We are downgrading our rating to 'neutral,' with a significantly lower, yet still compelling potential return to our revised target of 21 per cent. However, we expect the market will need to see a few quarters of delivery against these revised targets before Barrick will outperform its senior peers." The Globe reported on Oct. 18 that TD Cowen analysts continued to rate Barrick "buy." It was then worth $20.92.
