The Vancouver Sun reports in its Tuesday edition Barrick Gold will supply the metal for the gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Toronto.
A Canadian Press dispatch to The Sun says Barrick is the official metal supplier of raw materials for the more than 4,000 medals to be awarded.
The medals will be designed and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.
Barrick says the metal will come from its mines across the Americas.
The company has operations in six countries in the Americas: Canada, Argentina, Chile, Dominican Republic, Peru and the United States.
CP notes Teck Resources supplied the metal used in the medals awarded at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Barrick shares closed Monday at $16.71, down 31 cents, while the Royal Canadian Mint closed at $14.53, down a penny.
