Mr. John Miniotis reports
ABRASILVER ANNOUNCES NEW COPPER DISCOVERY AT LA COIPITA PROJECT; 621 METRES GRADING 0.38% COPPER, INCLUDING 114 METRES GRADING 0.70% COPPER
Abrasilver Resource Corp. has released assay results from the continuing drill program at the La Coipita copper-gold-molybdenum project, located in the San Juan province of Argentina. The drill program is fully financed and operated by a subsidiary of Teck Resources Ltd. under the terms of the earn-in and joint venture agreement, as per the company's news release dated
Jan. 22, 2024.
The assay results from drill hole DDH-LC25-006 have confirmed a significant intercept of high-grade copper mineralization, representing a new discovery, including a well-developed secondary enrichment zone, within a large-scale porphyry system.
Key results -- hole DDH-LC25-006:
-
114 metres grading 0.70 per cent copper, 0.07 gram per tonne gold and 81 parts per million molybdenum from 410 metres to 524 metres downhole depth, interpreted as a secondary enrichment zone;
- Including a
higher-grade interval
of
20 metres at 1.03 per cent copper, 0.08 gram per tonne gold and 71 parts per million molybdenum from 412 metres to 432 metres depth;
-
98 metres grading 0.55 per cent copper, 0.10 gram per tonne gold and 143 parts per million molybdenum
from 524 metres to 622 metres, interpreted as hypogene porphyry mineralization;
-
409 metres grading 0.25 per cent copper, 0.06 gram per tonne gold and 37 parts per million molybdenum
from 622 metres to 1,031 metres, corresponding to a high-sulphidation epithermal overprinting zone;
-
Combined, these intercepts comprise
621 metres grading 0.38 per cent copper, 0.07 gram per tonne gold and 62 parts per million molybdenum
from 410 metres to 1,031 metres, demonstrating the scale of the mineralized system.
Additional drilling progress:
-
Hole DDH-LC25-007, located approximately 500 metres east of DDH-LC25-006, was completed to a depth of 846.1 metres and has intercepted two separate secondary enrichment zones between 40 and 275 metres and between 422 and 593 metres, followed by a deeper zone interpreted to contain hypogene mineralization. Assays for this hole are pending.
-
Hole DDH-LC25-008, located approximately 500 metres north of DDH-LC25-006, was completed to a depth of 915 metres and intersected low-grade high-sulphidation copper mineralization. Assays for this hole are pending.
John Miniotis, president and chief executive officer, commented: "We are very excited to report this new copper discovery at La Coipita, highlighted by a substantial intercept of 114 metres grading 0.70 per cent copper within a broader intercept of 621 m grading 0.38 per cent copper. These results confirm the presence of a well-developed porphyry system with large-scale potential. With drilling fully funded and operated by Teck, we believe this discovery represents a major step forward in unlocking the value of this underexplored district, which is located in a major copper belt. We look forward to updating the market as additional assays are received and the broader potential of the project is further evaluated."
"We are encouraged by these early drill results from the La Coipita project. As we look to further advance exploration at the project, Teck is building a greater presence in the region and we continue to focus on growing strong relationships with local communities and suppliers, including those in and around Calingasta and San Juan," said Stuart McCracken, vice-president, exploration, at Teck.
La Coipita project overview
La Coipita is a district-scale property covering over 70,000 hectares in the western San Juan province, adjacent to the Chilean border. Elevation across the property ranges between 3,500 and 4,500 metres above sea level with moderate to high relief.
The property lies within the prolific Miocene porphyry-epithermal belt of Argentina and Chile, host to numerous world-class deposits, including Filo del Sol, Los Azules, El Indio, Veladero, Pascua Lama and El Pachon.
In 2024, Teck completed 2,476 metres of diamond drilling in five holes, along with geophysical surveys and target mapping. The 2025 drill campaign marks the second year of the earn-in program. To date, three additional holes have been drilled -- DDH-LC25-006, DDH-LC25-007 and DDH-LC25-008 -- completing 3,523 metres, with assay results pending for DDH-LC25-007 and DDH-LC25-008.
Quality assurance and quality control core sampling protocols
Reference materials were inserted at a rate of one in 20 samples (5 per cent), which included 33 blanks, 33 standards and 32 duplicates (taken as one-fourth of the core). Cores were cut into two halves, with one-half stored in core boxes and the other half collected at two-metre intervals, representing 50 per cent of this drilled section, and sent to the ALS lab in Mendoza, Argentina.
