The National Post reports in its Tuesday edition that U.S. President Donald Trump has contacted Apple about changing Lake Ontario's name to "Lake America" on its maps app, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said. The Post's Ellie Hutchings writes that in an interview Monday on Fox Business, Mr. Burgum said: "The President reached out to Apple directly, so I'm sure that we may be seeing that change coming up soon to Lake America." Mr. Trump's request follows Google Maps adopting the "Lake America" label in the U.S. over the weekend. The company said in a post on its corporate website that the change was made after the U.S. Geographic Names Information System had formally renamed the lake upon Mr. Trump's executive order to do so. Users in Canada will still see the lake's name displayed as Lake Ontario on Google Maps, while people elsewhere in the world will see both names. On the weekend, Ontario Premier Doug Ford erected a giant sign beside the lake declaring it "Lake Ontario Now and Always." Meanwhile, Trump shared a screenshot of the new "Lake America" name on Google Maps and an artificial-intelligence video of himself replacing a "Welcome to Lake Ontario" sign with one that reads "Welcome to Lake America."
