The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that geopolitical unrest and climate change are not the only issues troubling us, cybersecurity threats and misinformation driven by artificial intelligence are also major concerns. The Post's Rosalind Stefanac writes that risks associated with AI and big data have made the global Top 10 list of concerns in Ipsos's AXA Future Risks Report. Over 60 per cent of the general public and 54 per cent of experts who included AI and big data in their top five concerns reported feeling vulnerable to these risks in their daily lives. Corporate Canada is uncertain about AI, as revealed by Cisco's AI Readiness Index. While 92 per cent of Canadian organizations have an AI strategy, only 7 per cent feel fully prepared, a decline from 9 per cent in 2023. That so few companies are ready to use AI today is concerning given that it is fast becoming one of the key technologies needed from a security standpoint, says Cisco Systems Canada chief technical officer Rob Barton. He says, "AI is the new front line in the battle of cybersecurity and there is this arms race underway." On one side are bad actors using AI for attacks, while on the other side, IT companies like Cisco use AI for defence.
