The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Feb. 17, edition that with the emergence of AI and a growing pool of independent talent, it is now possible to develop major innovations quickly and at a fraction of the previous cost. The Globe's Gus Carlson writes that decentralization of know-how away from the big players may see innovation returning to its roots: the garage. After all, that is where icons such as Microsoft's Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and Apple's Steve Jobs hatched and developed innovative ideas that changed the world. A mass of tech talent now unshackled from the corporate establishment means innovation can start in the garages again. While Mr. Gates, Mr. Allen and Mr. Jobs were armed with soldering irons and extension cords in their quests to make their visions reality, the next generation of innovative geniuses will have much more powerful tools at their fingertips -- namely, artificial intelligence. AI has the potential to revolutionize the way new ideas are generated and developed. With just a laptop and AI technology, one person or a small group can produce and refine big ideas at a much faster pace and significantly lower cost than traditional methods allowed in the past.
