The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition that it is encouraging to see the markets rebounding after last week's sell-off. The Post's Martin Pelletier writes that there remains, however, some chance that something could still go wrong, such as rapidly rising global turmoil or the U.S. Federal Reserve not delivering on the markets' expected rate cuts this year while steering the economy into a very soft landing. Or it could be something unexpected that comes out of left field. Meanwhile, investors are going all in on those segments trading at all-time highs. Speculators have now accumulated the largest Nasdaq long position ever, says the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, while long positioning in U.S. equity futures by asset managers is at the most extreme level since 2014. For some further perspective on this trade, Microsoft is now the size of Canada's entire stock market and Nvidia in just two years has gone from barely being a top 30 company by market cap to being the world's sixth-largest public company. Mr. Pelletier says that just 10 companies accounted for 42 per cent of the rally from the recent Jan. 4 bottom, with Apple and Nvidia making up more than 20 per cent of that alone.
