The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Jan. 3, edition that Barclays analyst Tim Long has lowered his recommendation for Apple to "underweight" from "equal-weight," citing several concerns, including sluggish sales of the new iPhone. The Globe's Darcy Keith writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Long trimmed his share target to $160 (U.S.) from $161 (U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $199.14 (U.S.). Mr. Long says in a note: "IP15 has been lacklustre and we believe IP16 should be the same. Other hardware categories should remain weak, and we don't see services growing more than 10 per cent. We expect reversion after a year when most quarters were missed and the stock outperformed." The Globe reported on Oct. 25 that Goldman Sachs chief U.S. equity strategist David Kostin had recommended buying Apple. The shares could then be had for $171.10 (U.S.). The Globe's Tim Shufelt advised being cautious on Apple on Nov. 27. The shares could then be had for $189.79 (U.S.).
