The Successful Investor, in the May, 2015, issue, refreshes its buy of Suncor Energy Inc., recently $39. The Investor said buy 10 times from October, 2009, to February, 2015, at prices ranging from $30 to $43. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 10 buys, the $10,000 position is now worth $10,920. Suncor produced 598,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day in the first quarter of 2015, up from 545,300 barrels a day a year earlier. Its oil sands properties and conventional properties both contributed to the rise. The drop in oil prices has led the company to lower its 2015 budget to a range of $6.2-billion to $6.8-billion, down by $1-billion from before. It expects that job cuts and other cost-cutting measures will save $600-million to $800-million this year. To put these figures in perspective, Suncor's cash flow was $9.1-billion in 2014. Buy.
