Sokoman to acquire Star Trek, Antimony Ridge properties

2014-10-21 12:59 ET - News Release

Mr. Timothy Froude reports

SOKOMAN IRON CORP. OPTIONS ANTIMONY PROPERTIES IN NEWFOUNDLAND

Sokoman Iron Corp. has reached an agreement with local interests to acquire two antimony/gold properties in northeastern Newfoundland. Pending TSX Venture Exchange approval, the company will acquire a 100-per-cent interest in the Star Trek and Antimony Ridge properties, subject to a 2-per-cent net smelter returns royalty to the vendors, by issuing two million common shares of Sokoman Iron.

Star Trek property

The Star Trek property consists of 62 claims (1,550 hectares) located 20 kilometers east of Gander and 70 kilometres northeast of the Beaver Brook antimony mine, which is currently on care and maintenance. Previous exploration on the property has outlined multiple antimony-in-soil (plus-or-minus-gold-plus-or-minus-base-metals) geochemical anomalies measuring from 500 metres to 2.9 kilometres in length, and up to 300 metres wide. Trenching by the vendors in 2013 successfully exposed several zones of subcropping and outcropping antimony mineralization, along with locally significant gold and base metal values ranging up to 38 per cent antimony from grab samples, and up to 0.64 per cent antimony and 186 parts per billion gold from a five-metre channel sample. Local grab sampling has returned over three grams per tonne gold. Previous operators focused on the gold potential of the region, and, as a result, none of the strongest antimony-in-soil anomalies have been drill tested. The above-noted soil anomalies are from reconnaissance programs with a 250-metre line spacing.

Antimony Ridge property

The Antimony Ridge property consists of 28 claims (700 hectares) and is located near tidewater on the south coast of Newfoundland, five kilometres north of the town of St. Alban's. Historical gold-focused exploration by Teck in the 1990s outlined a significant zone of antimony mineralization within an open-ended antimony and gold soil geochemical anomaly measuring at least 1.5 kilometres in length. A single trench exposed mineralization measuring six metres in width (length unknown) and from which grab samples assayed between 0.1 per cent and 1 per cent antimony (assay limit was 1 per cent antimony and no overrange assaying was completed). The zone has not been drill tested.

Interim chief executive officer Timothy Froude stated: "While we remain committed to finding partners to advance our Iron Horse project in western Labrador, the iron ore market is currently a very tough sell. In order to ensure our company remains viable, we have no choice but to pursue other interests in the near term. These locally based projects will allow us the opportunity to achieve market success with a much more reasonable financial commitment."

This news release has been reviewed and approved by Timothy Froude, PGeo, a qualified person under National Instrument 43-101 and the interim chief executive officer for Sokoman Iron.
