The Successful Investor, in the October, 2015, issue, says hold Maple Leaf Foods Inc., recently $22. The Investor said buy 17 times from February, 2005, to July, 2014, at prices ranging from $9.17 to $19. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 17 buys, the $17,000 position is now worth $30,228. In this brief update, the Investor points out that about 8 per cent of Maple Leaf's revenue comes from exporting packaged meats to the United States. The weak loonie makes these products cheaper to American buyers, while also making imported meats more expensive in Canada, benefiting Maple Leaf on two fronts. These benefits come as Maple Leaf is working to improve its business by closing older plants and shifting their operations to newer ones. The Investor sees the potential of this restructuring, but warns that a year or more could pass before the improvements are fully enjoyed. Maple Leaf remains a hold.
