Offsetters Climate Solutions touts partnership with CDP

2015-03-10 15:11 ET - News Release

Mr. James Tansey reports

OFFSETTERS CLIMATE SOLUTIONS CONTINUES COLLABORATION WITH CDP AS AN OFFICIAL CANADIAN CONSULTANCY PARTNER

The partnership between Offsetters Climate Solutions Inc. and CDP -- an international non-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information -- continues into its second year as Offsetters remains a CDP Canadian consultancy partner.

CDP is significantly extending its global impact across every major economy, with its programs being used in more than 80 countries around the world. The partnership allows Offsetters the opportunity to provide added value to its clients through CDP's international measurement and guidance. This partnership builds upon Offsetters' strength of helping clients to understand and manage their environmental, reputational and financial risk related to their carbon footprint.

"CDP is proud to have Offsetters as a Canadian consultancy partner to support the growth in the Canadian market toward more accountable measuring and transparent reporting," says Paul Robins, head of partnerships for CDP. "Offsetters is a leader in carbon management, and this partnership reflects its leadership and the strength of its team."

Since the partnership with CDP was formed, Offsetters has been working with a number of Canadian companies to improve their environmental reporting and to develop carbon management policies. Most of the country's largest companies still have work to do. A 2014 report by CDP found that of 200 Toronto Stock Exchange companies surveyed, less than 44 per cent have set emission reduction targets of any kind, compared with 80 per cent of the world's largest 500 companies. Offsetters anticipates that there will be a lot of interest from Canadian companies striving to meet international carbon reporting and standards.

"CDP has been helping the world's largest companies to monitor their environmental impact, but unfortunately Canada is not leading the way," says Offsetters chief executive officer, James Tansey. "Some of the largest Canadian companies still need to examine their role in the production -- and eventual reduction -- of carbon emissions. Our goal in 2015 and through this partnership is to increase the overall percentage of Canadian companies that have carbon reduction plans by showing them how these efforts can improve their bottom line."

The Offsetters team of industry leaders offers a comprehensive suite of sustainability consultancy services, and is proud to also specialize in the origination, development and commercialization of high-quality carbon offset projects. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Offsetters has worked with more than 150 of the world's most prestigious organizations, and has reported to CDP on behalf of organizations such as Aimia, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Nature's Path.

CDP believes that systemic change -- a real transformation of the global economic system -- is required to achieve the scale of change that will limit global warming and prevent catastrophic climate change. This partnership and collaborative approach foster innovative thinking to support the needed change.
