The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Oct. 9, edition that RBC Dominion Securities analyst
Neil Downey continues to rate Brookfield Asset Management ($43.05 (Canadian)) "outperform." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Downey says he views Brookfield Asset as a "core holding for most Canadian equity portfolios." Touting its "impressive growth" in both fee-related earnings and fee-bearing capital, Mr. Downey also says "momentum is strong" to reach its target for new private fund commitments. Mr. Downey says the asset manager is suffering from the "Brazilian blues" which will limit near-term net-asset-value growth. He estimates Brazil represents 15 per cent of Brookfield Asset's tangible NAV, and, thus, the devaluation of the country's currency versus the greenback has caused him to tweak his NAV estimates. Accordingly, the analyst lowered his price target for the stock to $40 (U.S.) from $41 (U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $37.89 (U.S.). BMO Nesbitt Burns analyst Bert Powell boosted Brookfield Asset to "outperform" from "market perform" in The Globe on Oct. 1. The Class A shares could then be had for $41.99 (Canadian).
