The Investment Reporter, in its Nov. 6, 2015, issue, refreshes its buy of Fortis Inc., recently $39.44. The Reporter said buy 29 times from Oct. 15, 1995, to Oct. 30, 2015, at prices ranging from $22.89 to $70.68 (the stock split 4 for 1 on Oct. 12, 2005). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 29 buys, the $29,000 position would now be worth $76,513. The utility has raised its annual dividend to $1.50 a share, for an attractive yield of 3.8 per cent. The new dividend is up 10.3 per cent from the former rate of $1.36 a share. Fortis has raised its dividend every year since the early 1970s. It hopes to raise its dividend by 6 per cent every year through 2020. The newsletter says this will convince dividend-seeking investors to bid up the price of your shares. Fortis continues to be a buy for further long-term price gains and attractive and rising dividends.
