The Globe's Tim Shufelt writes that markets are spooked, and it's about time. A faltering U.S. stock market would be about as powerful an ally as we could ask for. Diplomacy has proven pointless in making Canada's case that the pretexts for U.S. tariffs are bogus. Trump 2.0 is taking uncertainty to a new order of magnitude. He is uncertainty in a Brioni suit. When he briefly made good on his threats last week, the stock market registered its displeasure. The market is screaming on a daily basis, "You're wrong, Trump!" Good thing. We can also take some karmic satisfaction that decision makers who would harm us seem to be harming themselves in the process. Tesla's weirdo boss, Elon Musk, wrote on X, "Canada is not a real country." Tesla sales are now tanking in Canada and globally. The stock is down 45 per cent from its December peak.
