The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that Anthropic's new artificial-intelligence model has sparked a cybersecurity arms race, as organizations rush to identify and address vulnerabilities in their systems before threat actors can easily exploit them. A triple-bylined item led by Alexandra Posadzki reports that San Francisco-based Anthropic decided not to release its powerful new model, called Claude Mythos AI, to the general public because of its potential for abuse by hackers. Instead, Anthropic made a preview version available to a select group of companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks and JPMorgan Chase. The initiative, dubbed Project Glasswing, is intended to help operators of critical digital infrastructure bolster their defences. AI Minister Evan Solomon will meet with Anthropic officials on Tuesday. Canadian bank executives and regulators met on Friday to discuss the cybersecurity risks posed by Mythos. Mythos has already uncovered thousands of vulnerabilities, including in "every major operating system and web browser," according to Anthropic. "We can't patch our way out of this," said David Shipley, who runs cybersecurity firm Beauceron Security Inc.
