The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that an RCMP unit probing criminal misconduct is searching the headquarters of electric school bus maker Lion Electric as part of an investment-fraud investigation. The Globe's Nicolas Van Praet writes that as many as 75 officers are taking part in the operation. Police are targeting the company's base in Saint-Jérôme, Que., 60 kilometres northwest of Montreal. Investigators are executing a search warrant to gather evidence, including servers. The probe, led by the RCMP's Integrated Market Enforcement Team, began in February, 2025, after the police force received complaints from more than 100 investors. The operation is tied to the company's past activities under previous owners, when it also made electric trucks. A proposed class-action lawsuit filed last year in Quebec court by New York's Scott+Scott sheds some light on the purported wrongdoing by Lion's former leadership. Among Lion Electric's early claims was that it had established relations with industry leaders such as Amazon and that the retail giant was eyeing orders for as many as 2,500 Lion trucks. Only a few trucks were delivered to Amazon. The Quebec government invested tens of millions of dollars in Lion.
