The S&P/TSX Cannabis Index added 3.71 to 160.33, while the CSE Composite Index lost 3.62 to 680.84. Vancouver-based psychedelics researcher Numinus Wellness Inc. (NUMI) lost 16 cents to $1.09 on 15.1 million shares, after baffling investors with yesterday's decision to halt trading all day "pending an announcement," only for the announcement to be about the closing of financing. Perhaps Numinus was chuffed that the $17-million proceeds were higher than the original proposal of $10-million (as announced Dec. 7) or the upsized amount of $15-million (as announced later on Dec. 7). The ultimate amount included the full exercise of the overallotment option.

Investors were nonetheless expecting something a little more fitted to the suspense. A cynic might even point out that yesterday would have been the last day for tax-loss selling by any shareholders displeased by the stock's plunge toward $1.25 from its recent high of $2.45, a selling opportunity neatly removed by the all-day halt. Yet there are plenty of other investors who will find it easy to forgive Numinus. Today's close of $1.09 is still well above the financing price of 68 cents a share (plus a warrant sweetener), as well as the trading price of 25 cents just three months ago.
