Globe/wire say TSX goes green at start of eventful week

2026-10-27 09:23 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that U.S. and Canadian stocks closed higher on Monday, as Anthropic's IPO filing helped boost sentiment in AI-related stocks in a week filled with a host of market catalysts. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe says Anthropic disclosed steep losses and red-hot revenue growth in its filing for a U.S. initial public offering, laying out its ambition to build AI systems capable of reshaping the global economy despite the high costs of developing the technology. The AI lab is pushing ahead with listing plans even as a once-lively fall IPO calendar has slowed, with recent market volatility prompting companies to delay offerings. Anthropic's filing comes as investors increasingly dissect the potential payoff from massive AI spending and at the start of an eventful week. On tap are the Federal Reserve's policy statement on Wednesday, readings on U.S. economic growth and inflation on Thursday and a slew of corporate earnings reports throughout the week. The Bank of Canada also releases its policy decision on Wednesday, with markets and economists largely expecting a rate hike. The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed at 35,944.16, up 155.98 points, while the Dow added 146.42 points.
