The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that U.S. and Canadian stocks advanced on Wednesday, notching a partial rebound from a three-day losing streak as investors searched for deals among stocks and sectors that might have been oversold amid recent risk-off moves. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe says that all three major U.S. stock indexes gained ground, with the small-cap Russell 2000 the outperformer, rising 1.1 per cent. Financial and metal mining shares led advancers in Toronto. On the sector level in the U.S., airlines, gold and silver miners and regional banks were the frontrunners, while software and services, seen as potential victims of artificial-intelligence disruption, underperformed on the day. Semiconductor companies enjoyed a strong day after chipmaker Broadcom delivered second-quarter results after the bell. Lauren Cassidy at Founders 100 ETF in Dallas said, "AI adoption is still in the very early innings and it's just now accelerating. We could see exponential growth from here." The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended up 265.88 points at 36,091.61. Gold bounced from a near one-month low; heavily weighted financials ended 1.5 per cent higher; U.S. crude moved higher at $91.01 (U.S.) a barrel.
