West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery added $1.07 to $83.20, while Brent for October added $1.19 to $88.91 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $17.50 to WTI, up from a discount of $20.10. Natural gas for September lost three cents to $2.76. The TSX energy index added 3.18 points to close at 425.24.
Mike Rose's Tourmaline Oil Corp. (TOU) (which despite its Oil-y name is Canada's largest gas producer) lost 22 cents to $59.93 on 3.76 million shares. It had no news today, but its chief executive officer was in the news following his recent $1.2-million shopping spree for the company's shares. "CEO invests $1-million as this large-cap energy stock dips," reported a Globe and Mail article this morning, noting that Tourmaline's founder, chairman, president and CEO, Mr. Rose, bought 20,000 shares from July 31 to Aug. 5 at an average price of $60.78. He now owns 8.13 million shares in that particular account.
