West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery lost 45 cents to $67.00 on the New York Merc, while Brent for September lost 31 cents to $68.80 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.10 to WTI, down from a discount of $11.90. Natural gas for August lost eight cents to $3.40. The TSX energy index lost 1.02 points to close at 267.48.
Terry Anderson's Montney-focused ARC Resources Ltd. (ARX) edged down five cents to $27.80 on 3.72 million shares, after "reinforcing [its] position as Canada's largest Montney and condensate producer" by closing a $1.6-billion asset acquisition in its core Kakwa Montney area. The assets will expand production by about 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day. For context, ARC's preacquisition full-year guidance was 380,000 to 385,000 barrels a day, a range that management plans to update with the release of ARC's second quarter financials on July 31.
