New York spot gold fell $25.40 by Monday afternoon, pausing at $4,138.70. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.41 points to 846.71 while the TSX gold index fell 10.94 points to 872.26. Most precious metals miners moved lower today, including Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG), which fell $2.81 to $91.25 on 544,000 shares. Some managed modest gains today, with Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU) rose four cents to $3.21 on 916,000 shares.

Mark Lynch-Staunton's Benz Mining Corp. (BZ), up 75 cents to $4.62 on 613,000 shares, has scored multiple broad, high-grade gold intercepts at its Icon target, on its Glenburgh project in Western Australia. The assays, from another 68 holes drilled at the target, yielded a headline hit of 6.5 grams of gold per tonne across 45 metres at depth. A few others topped three grams per tonne across comparable intervals, and several others topped two grams per tonne over wide zones.

Benz applauded its new results, glowing that the "remarkable scale of Icon is becoming increasingly apparent." The systematic drilling on a 50-metre-by-25-metre grid has now delineated a 100-metre-to-200-metre-wide mineralized system across the first kilometre of a known three-kilometre-long trend. Further, the mineralization is defined to depths exceeding 500 metres. The system hosts multiple stacked high-grade lenses, with the individual lenses running about 30 to 50 metres in width, which are surrounded by a low-grade halo.
