New York spot gold rose $61.10 by Friday afternoon, pausing at $4,193.10. The TSX Venture Exchange regained 6.27 points to 874.03 while the TSX gold index added 25.70 points to 901.36. Most precious metals miners gained altitude today. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) did so with gusto, adding $1.69 to $39.03 on 1.05 million shares. DPM Metals Inc. (DPM), up $2.28 yesterday on an encouraging third quarter production report, swelled by another $5.13 today, closing at $59.41 on 2.73 million shares.
Ron Husband's Epic Gold Corp. (EPG) had news, but it fell two cents to 23 cents on 51,000 shares. The company is applauding a maiden-to-it resource estimate for the McKinnon deposit on its optioned Hawkins project, southwest of Hearst in Northern Ontario. The calculation lists 14 million tonnes inferred at 0.98 gram of gold per tonne, about 440,000 ounces. Most of the gold is in open-pittable rock -- 360,000 ounces at 0.89 gram per tonne -- while the other 80,000 ounces are deeper, at 1.82 grams per tonne.
