New York spot gold retreated $71.10 Wednesday, taking a break at $4,586.80. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 8.16 points to 1,003 while the TSX gold index dropped 28.73 points, ending the day at 1,015. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM) was among those southbound, as it shed $9.84 to $216.34 on 1.45 million shares in silence. Equally silent Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM), on the other hand, went the other way, gaining 38 cents to $18.13 on 1.83 million shares.

Craig Parry's Vizsla Copper Corp. (VCU) rose seven cents to $1.40 on 1.86 million shares on word that it has drilled a 48.5-metre interval grading 0.23 gram of gold and 16.59 grams of silver per tonne plus 3.32 per cent copper in a subinterval at its Deerhorn deposit, on the Woodjam project in central British Columbia. The full zone ran 0.06 gram of gold and 4.29 grams of silver per tonne plus 0.97 per cent copper across 266 metres. The hole also encountered a shallower zone spanning 129.9 metres with 0.21 gram of gold and 0.94 gram of silver per tonne plus 0.3 per cent copper.
