New York spot gold continued its newfound rally to end the week, adding $98.90 to $4,338.10. The TSX Venture Exchange moved higher smartly -- or at least today's buyers hope it was a smart move -- as the index added 28.12 points to 954.9. The TSX gold index also did well, adding 54.43 points to 885.7. Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) was strong, as it added $1.08 to $16.16 on 13.65 million shares, and B2Gold Corp. (BTO) was stronger still, leaping $1.29 to $7.03 on 38.7 million shares, although it was prodded along by word of a strong second quarter.
B2Gold had more news today that helped it carry on with its northbound march. The Malian government has granted the company an exploitation permit for the Menankoto area of its Fekola regional project. (B2Gold already had a permit for the Dandoko area of the regional project.) The company owns a 65-per-cent interest in the Fekola regional project, not to be confused with the 80-per-cent interest it holds in the Fekola mine, covered by the Medinandi permit, which is the core of the Malian project. (The Malian government owns the rest in both cases.)
