New York spot gold added $43.80 to $4,109.10 Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 16.94 points to 875.50 while the TSX gold index gained 26.15 points to 759.46. Most gold miners moved higher, but with modest gains. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) was more adventurous, as it added $1.66 to $28.68 on 1.78 million shares. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI), on the other hand, fell 39 cents to $39.74 on 2.65 million shares.
Gilbert Clark's Meridian Mining PLC (MNO) jumped 19 cents to $1.56 on 717,000 shares on word that it has produced high-quality blister copper grading nearly 99 per cent copper, 95.2 grams of gold and 388 grams of silver per tonne, using concentrate produced at its Cabacal copper-gold-silver project in Mato Grosso, Brazil. This was a part of the laboratory-scale smelting and converting tests that the company is completing. (Blister copper gets its name from the bubbles of sulphur dioxide gas that escapes as the product cools.)
