New York spot gold added $10.10 to $4,078.80 Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 8.5 points to 858.56 while the TSX gold index lost 5.82 points to 733.31. B2Gold Corp. (BTO) dropped 15 cents to $5.28 on 6.64 million shares, but it had plenty of company. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) tagged along, falling nine cents to $1.91 on 749,000 shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) bucked the trend, adding $1.25 to $23.95 on 2.27 million shares on word it is maintaining its seven-cent dividend.
Gadzooks! Peter Marrone's Allied Gold Corp. (AAUC) tumbled $5.50 to $24 on 17.82 million shares on word that its takeover by China-based Zijin Gold International Co. has fallen off the rails. The two companies now lawyerize that "that there is no reasonable likelihood that the conditions relating to completion of the transaction will be fulfilled by [today's deadline] ... or within any reasonable time thereafter."
