New York spot gold rose $35.50 to $4,190.30 by Monday afternoon. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 6.17 points to 948.54 while the TSX gold index lost 0.03 point to 819.19. Most precious metals miners meandered today. Among those trucking northward with purpose were Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM), which added $7.70 to $172.44 on 1.51 million shares, and Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG), which gained $2.12 to $80.61 on 932,000 shares. Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX), on the other hand, dropped five cents to 64 cents on 1.26 million shares.

Last week's big loser, John McCluskey's Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI), recovered some of the $9.48 it lost Friday, ending Monday up $3.30 to $45.22 on 10.38 million shares. The recovery was aided by word that new assays from underground and surface drilling at its Island gold mine have defined high-grade mineralization across multiple areas. Those areas, the company cheers, are being targeted as sources of additional higher-grade mill feed for its expanding Magino mill.
