New York spot gold fell $53.70 to $4,154.70 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 8.18 points to 954.71 while the TSX gold index lost 12.83 points to 819.2. Most precious metals miners lost ground today. Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) lost 89 cents to $56.19 on 8.85 million shares and Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) fell $1.89 to $44.81 on 754,000 shares. A few managed modest gains, including Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS), which rose 50 cents to $60.26 on 2.91 million shares.
It would not be bad-news Friday without some bleak information seeping into the market. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI), a $55 stock on Wednesday, slid $9.48 to $41.92 on 8.82 million shares today, hitting an intraday low of $41.04. The slide followed word late Thursday that production from the company's Young-Davidson operation "has been impacted by recent events." One event was meteorological: The mine suffered power outages late in May, after severe storms damaged the regional power line. Given the remote location of the damage, it took three days to restore power.
