New York spot gold regained some ground Thursday, adding $72.30 to $4,615.20. The TSX Venture Exchange jumped 12.35 points to 994.87 while the TSX gold index reclaimed 13.52 points to 851.34. Most of Canada's precious metals miners moved northward today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) -- it was a $60 stock barely two years ago -- jumped $4.22 to $255.43 on 1.91 million shares. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) was strong, as it added 36 cents to $12.54 on 1.66 million shares.
Paul Andre Huet's Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) was also among the gainers, adding 24 cents to $7.78 on 3.29 million shares, but it had news. The company has its "fourth major new discovery at the Galena complex" in Idaho, with the identification of six new high-grade silver-copper-antimony veins. The top assay returned a 1.9-metre intercept grading 1,392 grams of silver per tonne, along with 1.5 per cent copper and 1.5 per cent antimony, from the 43L-TJ vein complex. It was not alone: Three other hits topped the 1,000-gram-per-tonne mark.
